MCPHERSON, KS (JANUARY 12, 2026) —McPherson Health & Rehab, a skilled nursing community serving McPherson and surrounding areas, has completed a highly successful pilot program using the eBrief™ Assistive Technology, an innovative system designed to improve outcomes for residents facing incontinence-related challenges.
Over a three-month pilot beginning in the summer of 2025, the technology was implemented with 15 high-risk residents to monitor wetness events and guide timely care. The results were impressive:
-
- 100% prevention of incontinence-related skin breakdown
-
- 83% reduction in urinary tract infections
-
- 50% reduction in fall rates among participating residents
Alyx Shaw, Administrator of McPherson Health & Rehab, said the benefits of the system were felt by both staff and families. “Since integrating eBrief into our daily workflows, we’ve seen meaningful improvements in resident safety, with fewer falls, fewer infections, and no skin breakdowns,” Shaw said. “It’s a game-changer for how we think about person-centered care in long-term settings.”
Mission Health Communities, which manages senior care centers across the country, selected McPherson as a pilot site because of its strong clinical leadership and commitment to innovation.
“Incontinence care hasn’t seen much innovation in decades,” said Jacqueline Vance, Senior Director of Clinical Innovation at Mission Health Communities, which manages the McPherson facility. “With eBrief at McPherson Health & Rehab, we’ve seen firsthand how real-time data can empower our care teams to deliver more effective, proactive support for residents while protecting their comfort and dignity.”
From the technology partner’s perspective, the results aligned closely with the intended impact of eBrief.
“The results at McPherson demonstrate exactly what eBrief was designed to do—give caregivers real-time visibility so they can intervene sooner and provide care that truly protects resident comfort and health,” said Eric Buffkin, President & CEO of etectRx. “Seeing this level of impact in such a short period underscores the value of pairing frontline expertise with smart technology.”
Angel Westerman, Director of Customer Success at etectRx, also praised the collaboration: “Working alongside the McPherson team has been inspiring. Their commitment to resident dignity and proactive care made this pilot a model for what’s possible. We’re thrilled to support communities that are so dedicated to meaningful clinical improvement.”
The eBrief system uses a smart incontinence insert and room reader to alert staff when moisture is detected. This allows for faster response times and reduces the need for manual “check and change” rounds, saving valuable nursing hours and enhancing resident comfort. A centralized care dashboard also helps teams track patterns and tailor care more effectively.
“This success reinforces how powerful the right technology can be when combined with dedicated caregivers,” said Karen MacDonald, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Mission Health. “We’re proud of the McPherson team for leading the way in improving outcomes for residents.”
