Every October, Mission Health communities proudly unite to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to remember, educate, and stand together around a cause that touches countless lives. Pink ribbons, t-shirts, and decorations fill our buildings, not just as symbols of awareness, but as reflections of the deep compassion and togetherness that define who we are.
A Shared Mission of Strength and Support
Breast cancer affects millions of families each year. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. In 2025 alone, more than 310,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women — and over 2,700 in men.
Behind each number is a story of courage, faith, and love. At Mission Health, those stories are part of our daily life — in the residents who face breast cancer with grace and grit, in the staff who walk alongside loved ones during treatment, and in the families who show up for one another in every possible way. This month, we honor every one of them.
Living the CARES Values Through Action
Our CARES values — Character, Attitude, Respect, Excellence, and Service — guide how we show up for one another, especially during moments like this.
- Character shines when we stand beside a colleague or resident facing health challenges, offering strength and empathy.
- Attitude is seen in the hope and positivity we share — whether through wearing pink proudly, offering an encouraging word, or hosting a community walk.
- Respect shows in how we listen to survivors’ stories and honor their journeys with dignity.
- Excellence drives us to promote education, awareness, and preventive screenings for early detection.
- Service inspires us to give back — supporting research, volunteering, and spreading compassion beyond our walls.
Together, these values do more than raise awareness — they build a community of care.
Supporting One Another, One Step at a Time
Across Mission Health, our teams are organizing “Wear Pink Days” to celebrate survivors and raise awareness for breast cancer research. These moments remind us that even small actions — donating a few dollars, sharing a story, or simply showing up — can make a powerful difference.
We encourage everyone to support organizations making a lasting impact, such as the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation, or local partners advancing research, education, and support for those in treatment.
Every donation fuels hope. Every conversation spreads awareness. Every act of compassion brings us closer to a future free from breast cancer.
A Community Built on Hope
As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we do more than wear pink — we live what it stands for. We honor survivors, uplift those still fighting, and remember those we’ve lost. We share stories, hold hands, and live our CARES values out loud.
At Mission Health, care goes beyond medicine. It lives in every smile, every gesture, and every act of support that strengthens our family. Together, we carry forward the promise of hope, healing, and heart — today and always.
Join Us: We believe that healthcare is local, and caring for our neighbors is essential. This October, we invite you to find a breast cancer awareness event, walk, or donation center in your community. Your involvement — big or small — helps build a stronger, healthier future for us all.
