YATES CENTER, KS (May 2025) — Mission Health Communities has announced that site clearing is now underway at the former location of Yates Center Health and Rehab, with plans moving forward for a new, modern skilled nursing building to serve the Yates Center community.
The project will be a completely new build on the same site as the original structure, which was lost due to a fire in March 2025. The new facility is currently in the design phase, with Kansas-based architecture firm NSPJ Architecture leading the project. While final design plans are still being finalized, the new facility is expected to include updated, resident-centered features, additional floor space, and enhanced accommodations. The current target date for completion of construction is late 2026.
“This is not a rebuild—it’s a fresh start,” said Tina Thomas, Senior Vice President of Operations. “We’re designing a beautiful, modern care environment that reflects our commitment to providing excellent care and being part of the Yates Center community for years to come.”
“Yates Center Health and Rehab was ranked #1 out of 302 nursing communities in Kansas with a five star overall survey rating just before the fire,” says Thomas, “and we looking forward to bringing back that excellence in a new space.”
Residents affected by the fire have been safely relocated to sister Mission Health communities and other nearby nursing communities. Approximately half of the former Yates Center staff continue to work within the organization, and Mission Health plans to announce future job opportunities as the new facility nears completion.
The project is in its early stages, with more information to be shared as timelines are confirmed. “This community means a great deal to us,” said CEO Stuart Lindeman. “We’re deeply grateful for the support we’ve received, we understand our importance as a local caregiver and employer, and we are excited to move forward with bringing high-quality care back to Yates Center.”
