Across the country, senior living communities recently came together to celebrate National Assisted Living Week (NALW), held September 7–13—a time dedicated to honoring residents, families, and caregivers. At The Residence at North Ridge, the celebration of this year’s theme, Ageless Adventures, highlighted both the vibrancy of residents and the compassionate care that defines daily life within Mission Health Communities.
Adventures That Know No Age
Throughout the week, residents reflected on their favorite adventures—both past and present—while creating new memories right at home in their community. From storytelling and laughter to engaging activities, the celebration was a powerful reminder that adventure has no age limit. It flourishes wherever people are supported, valued, and cared for—the essence of the Mission Experience.

CARES Values in Action
What truly stood out during the week was the unwavering commitment of the North Ridge team. Guided by Mission Health’s CARES values—Character, Attitude, Respect, Excellence, and Service—staff members went beyond daily support to foster joy, dignity, and connection. Their dedication ensures residents not only receive excellent care but also live a lifestyle rich with purpose, possibility, and love.
Residents embraced the Ageless Adventures theme by stepping outside their comfort zones. “I’m much more involved in activities. I used to just sit at home and read books,” one resident shared. Others pointed out how simple acts of encouragement from staff turn ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. “When we play bean bags, they clap for you even if you don’t win,” said Jeanette, a resident.
Leadership with Heart
For Activities Director Cindy Heigle, the theme is more than a one-week celebration—it reflects the everyday spirit of her residents. “Our residents are awesome! They’re open to trying new things and willing to get silly,” she shared. Cindy’s playful approach fills the halls with laughter and smiles. “Check out our Facebook page and you’ll see what I mean,” she added.
Residents also reminisced about their favorite vacation spots. For Jeff, the answer was easy: first New Zealand, and then his new home at North Ridge. After experiencing a stroke, Jeff found both physical and mental therapy in the community to be life-changing. “The staff allows me to be myself and helps me be the best I can be at any given time,” he explained. His advice for younger generations? “Enjoy every aspect of your life and participate in everything. Work hard and play hard.”
Celebrating the Caregivers
Of course, NALW also honored the caregivers who make all of this possible. Staff described the week as both fun and meaningful. “It’s about bringing the fun, the laughs, and giggles back into our residents’ lives,” said Seanyiam, Life Enrichment Assistant. For Ally, Assistant Executive Director, the celebration was “a fun way to acknowledge all the hard work we put into caring for our residents.”
The Mission Experience Every Day
At its heart, The Residence at North Ridge is more than a workplace; it is a home. Staff members set high standards because residents’ comfort, safety, and joy always come first. National Assisted Living Week was a reminder of a powerful truth: aging is not the end of adventure, but the beginning of new chapters filled with meaning, growth, and community.
At North Ridge, every day is part of the Mission Experience, and every day is an adventure worth celebrating.
